Mural Arts at The Gallery

Museum operations  |  point-of-sale  |  visitor experience

After a two-year study of the operations and opportunities for the renowned Philadelphia Mural Arts Program I developed a visitor experience concept to include a new Center City location for visitors. I painted a vision of how the operation could dramatically improve exposure of the program and tour and merchandise sales. After winning approval by the Board of Directors and necessary City of Philadelphia agencies, I oversaw the design, construction, fit and finishing, staffing, marketing, and all operations of the new 5,000 sq. ft. center. The space consisted of a tour box office, museum, art gallery, gift shop, paint studio, classroom, and staff offices.

Ryan Derfler re-defines high energy but never seems frenetic. His grasp of the big picture and the details that support it are almost instant, and he takes his job (or task, or role) very seriously. Nothing is ever left undone or left to chance. Ryan also has a gift for putting people around him at ease...
